The Canadian government has announced that international graduates with recently expired or expiring post-graduation work permits (PGWP) will be able to apply for an additional or extended work permit, allowing them to stay longer and gain more work experience for up to 18 months. This move aims to help employers find and retain the workers they need during the country’s period of economic recovery and growth. The program, which starts on April 6, 2023, will allow Canada to retain high-skilled talent and allow international graduates to continue contributing to the Canadian economy while preparing for the opportunity to apply for permanent residency. The additional 18-month work permit will also be available for those whose PGWP has already expired in 2023 or were eligible for the 2022 PGWP facilitative measure.
