Canada will launch category-based selection on its Express Entry System
On May 31, 2023, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, announced the introduction of category-based selection to Canada’s Express Entry immigration system. This new approach will allow Canada to invite prospective permanent residents with specific skills, training, or language abilities to apply for immigration. The focus for this year will be
on candidates with strong French language proficiency,
work experience in healthcare,
STEM professions,
trades,
transport,
and agriculture and agri-food.
The move aims to make the Express Entry system more responsive to Canada’s economic and labour market needs, while also supporting French communities across the country. Further details on the application process will be announced in the coming weeks.
